Zonal hospital chief medical officer Dr Deshraj Sharma said the society spends over Rs 10 lakh in a year on vehicles for social and welfare causes and outsourcing laboratory testing had led to a funds crunch.

“The hospital charges Rs 100 for a RKS slip to be attached with a medical certificate needed to get a drivers licence, but people usually don’t buy the slip prior to have a medical certificate and this is causing a huge loss to the society,” said Sharma.

He added hospital officials had requested the deputy commissioner to make it mandatory for a Rs 100 RKS slip to be attached with documents submitted by the applicant and if the slip is not attached than the medical certificate should not be entertained.

The matter was under consideration but may face public objection as the state government has already hiked the fee for obtaining a driving licence and addition of Rs 100 would put extra burden on common man’s pocket.
