A truck driver was booked for allegedly running over a stray dog in Dera Bassi on Monday night.

A truck driver was booked for allegedly running over a stray dog in Dera Bassi on Monday night.

A first of its kind, the case was registered under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304 (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. (Representative image)

A first of its kind, the case was registered under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304 (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. The complainant in the case, who is a resident of Gulmohar city extension, said he was going home from the market at around 9.30pm, when a stray dog sitting on the side of the road was hit by a speeding truck.

Even though the driver managed to flee the spot, the case was registered on the basis of the truck’s registration number.
