Five arrested for illegal sand mining in Shahkot

The Shahkot police on Sunday arrested Kuldeep Singh, Sawaran Singh, Lakhbir Singh, residents of Bhannolanga village in Kapurthala, Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Pattarr Kalan village, and Gurpreet Singh, son of Gian Singh of Nathu Chahal village in Kapurthala, on the charges of illegal sand mining.

The Shahkot police on Sunday arrested Kuldeep Singh, Sawaran Singh, Lakhbir Singh, residents of Bhannolanga village in Kapurthala, Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Pattarr Kalan village, and Gurpreet Singh, son of Gian Singh of Nathu Chahal village in Kapurthala, on the charges of illegal sand mining.

Station house officer (SHO) Harjit Singh said block mining officer Pawan Kumar complained to the police that the accused violated order of the Punjab and Haryana high court and the Punjab Mining Act by indulging in illegal sand mining. A case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 21of the Punjab Mining Act has been registered against the accused and their tractor trolleys loaded with illegal sand have been impounded.
