Department of religion and culture of central Tibetan administration (CTA), popularly called the Tibetan government-in-exile, has organised a five-day ‘Maha Guru Bumtsok’ prayer service for good health and long life of their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, starting on Tuesday at Tsuglagkhang, the main Tibetan temple at McLeod Ganj.
The prayer ceremony was attended by the members of the Tibetan supreme justice commission, including, the chief justice commissioner Kargyu Dhondup, justice commissioner Ngawang Rabgyal, speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, members of the Kashag (cabinet of exile government), deputy speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, members of the Tibetan Parliament, chief election commissioner Sonam Choephel Shosur and the auditor general Arya Pema Dadul.
The annual ‘Maha Guru’ prayer offering is a Tibetan Buddhist ritual held every year in the fifth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar. The prayer service involves several days of prayers and distribution of food and edibles on a large scale to devotees. Local Tibetan and non-Tibetan devotees attend this ritual offering.
The prayer service will conclude on June 23.
