An inspector with the food and civil supplies department was on Tuesday caught red-handed by vigilance department sleuths while accepting allegedly a bribe of rs 3,000.

The inspector, identified as Vishal Kumar, has been posted at Devigarh near Patiala.Senior superintendent of police (vigilance bureau) Harpreet Singh said the complainant, Baljit Singh, a depot holder at Ishwarheri village, informed them that the accused used to take Rs 3,000 every month from him.
Following the complaint, a VB team laid a trap and caught the inspector red-handed. They also seized the amount from the accused.
The SSP said, “The accused was arrested in front of the public and was sent into police custody.”
“We will also investigate whether the accused was taking money from other depot holders or not,” he added.
A case was registered against the inspector under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
