Former district Youth Congress president Dimple Rana (42) suffered injuries after he allegedly shot himself in the abdomen at his in-laws house at Vikas Nagar on Pakhowal road on Monday.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm when Dimple was visiting his in-laws house at Vikas Nagar.

According to police, prima facie it appeared that Rana had shot himself with his licensed revolver after firing a shot in the air. The police are awaiting Rana's statement to pursue investigation.

They said Dimple's relations with his wife, Seema Rana, were strained, as she suspected him of infidelity. Therefore, she had left for her parents house a few months ago. The police said Seema had also moved court against Dimple for not giving her monthly maintenance.

Giving details, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) City-3 Joginder Singh said in a bid to pursue his wife to withdraw her complaint, Dimple visited his in-laws house at Vikas Nagar on Monday. However, he had an altercation with them.

The ADCP said the police had confiscated the revolver that was used in the firing.

“We are waiting for the statement of Rana, who is not medically fit yet to give details. No case has been registered as of now,” Joginder said.
