The district's rural police on Monday claimed to have solved a blind murder case with the arrest of four people and recovery of a motorcycle, belonging to the deceased, and a sharp-edged weapon used in the crime.
Those arrested have been identified as Hardev Singh, a resident of Wadala Johal village; Jaspal Singh of Kot Mit Singh, Rajwinder Singh of Nawan Pind and Jasbir Singh alias Jassa of Naraingarh.
ASI Chandan Kumar of CIA staff, Amritsar (rural), who investigated the case, said the headless body of Rajwant Singh (42) was found near Padhri village a day after he had gone missing on October 21, 2011. A case was registered at Lopoke police station.
Kumar said Bakshish Singh alias Buta Singh, father of the deceased, who ran a school, approached the police after his son's corpse was found. Bakshish Singh said a tiff between a person and Rajwant, when they were in jail, was the reason behind the murder.
Rajwant Singh was in jail in connection with his son's suicide over the former's alleged illicit relation with a woman.
Bakshish Singh maintained that during investigation it came to fore that after the murder, the accused hid Rajwant's motorcycle, which had no registration number, at their shop in Hoshiar Nagar. Further investigations are on, police said.
