Addressing media persons, Baldev alleged that Subba Singh of village Hussenabad in Kapurthala district had duped him of Rs 16.15lakh as advance payment for a plot of land. "He took Rs 17 lakh as advance payment for 17 marlas which was agreed to be sold for Rs 26.69 lakh on April 15, 2010.

When the date for registry approached, he kept on postponing it on one pretext or another," Baldev claimed.

"Later, he expressed his inability to get the deal matured due to some dispute with property owner. Thereafter, I asked him to return my advance payment along with penal amount. He issued me cheques which bounced," Baldev said, adding that "he returned just Rs 1.35 lakh in the last three months and started avoiding me."

Kapurthala SSP Sukhmindar Singh, when contacted, assured that he would look into the case and that justice would be ensured at all costs.
