Like “Friends Enterprises”, a fake company involved inthe R9.28-crore book scam, “Sunrise Enterprises” also does not exist on the ground. Holyfaith Int’l, Jalandhar; Brar Enterprises, Muktsar; and “Sunrise Enterprises”, Sardulgarh; had lost the contract to “Friends”.

On March 3, by the consent of state education minister Sikander Singh Maluka, the tender notice had appeared in a low-circulation newspaper; and on March 13, “Friends” was picked over “Sunrise” for offering 15% discount to Sunrise’s 14%. On paper, “Friends Enterprises’ also is from Sardulgarh, although this company as well is neither on the ground nor in the excise and taxation record of Mansa.

On paper, “Sunrise Enterprises” is near the Sardulgarh bus stand and a man named Navjot Singh is its owner. On paper, it came into existence on March 5, 2012, just two days after the tender notice appeared in the newspaper. Incidentally, Sunrise’s earnest money demand draft (205159) issued from ICICI Bank is numbered just one after that of Friends Enterprises’ (205158).

When told that Sunrise Enterprises was no-existent, Mansa ETO Devinder Kumar Singla said: “The company was earlier in existence but now it might be possible that the owner had closed it without informing us. We’ll cancel its licence and taxpayer identification number (TIN) issued by Sunday.”

Sunrise Enterprises’ owner Navjot Singh did not pick up the repeated telephone calls to his number.
