Gang of armed robbers busted in Batala, two arrested

In a breakthrough, the Batala police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two of its members, who were involved in about half a dozen incidents of crime in and around the city and recovered two 7.65 bore pistols and four live cartridges from them.

In a breakthrough, the Batala police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two of its members, who were involved in about half a dozen incidents of crime in and around the city and recovered two 7.65 bore pistols and four live cartridges from them.

Civil Lines police station SHO Gurbinder Singh said that after getting a specific tipoff, a police team put up a naka near Punder village. During checking, they apprehended two motorcyclists identified as Jaspal Singh alias Jassa, a resident of Sarchur, and Kala Singh, a resident of Ramana Chack and recovered the pistols and four cartridges from them.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that on the night of October 17, they had stabbed to death a migrant labourer at Mann Nagar after he resisted their robbing attempt.

On the night of October 21, they had looted two mobile phones and Rs 25,000 from a petrol pump vendor near Shakri village on the Batala-Kalanaur road.

Similarly, on November 9, they had also robbed a petrol pump vendor of Rs 1.25 lakh from Wadala Veeram village.
