Gang of motorcycle thieves busted, one arrested

The district police, on Sunday, arrested a member of an inter-state gang of motorcycle thieves from near Nihalgarh village under Dharamkot sub-division, 17 km from here.

The district police, on Sunday, arrested a member of an inter-state gang of motorcycle thieves from near Nihalgarh village under Dharamkot sub-division, 17 km from here.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jatinder Singh Khaira said that the police had received a tip-off that some miscreants had entered the district for selling stolen motorcycles.

"As soon as we received this information, I formed a special team under the supervision of Sukhdev Singh Brar, station house officer (SHO) of Kot-Ise-Khan police station, for nabbing the miscreants.

The team was deployed at a barricade near the canal bridge at Nihalgarh. At the barricade, the police stopped a man and on questioning, the team got suspicious of him. Further inquiries revealed that he was involved in theft of motorcycles.

The police said that the youth was identified as Jaskaran Singh of Kot-Ise-Khan. His interrogation led to the recovery of 10 stolen motorcycles from various places across the state.

"During investigation, Jaskaran Singh revealed that he was a member of a gang of vehicle thieves, which had been smuggling stolen motorcycles to Haryana, Delhi and different parts of the state after changing the number plates.They also prepared fake registration certificates of stolen motorcycles," said the police official.
