The government on Tuesday told the Punjab and Haryana high court that it will withdraw essentiality certificates given to Banur-based Gian Sagar medical college.
This was stated by Punjab advocate general Atul Nanda during a resumed hearing on a petition moved by students seeking shifting to other medical colleges.
Essentiality certificate means permission by the state government to set up a medical college and run various courses. The state government has granted many essentiality certificates to the Gian Sagar management since 2006. The withdrawal means the college has lost mandate to run the institution and the government will now take the responsibility of students. Since the government has refused to take over the college, it effectively means that students will have to be shifted to other medical colleges of Punjab.
REVIVAL PLAN
Earlier, the management submitted a revival plan to the court stating that Mata Leelawati Shiksha Sansthan, New Delhi, would give Rs 10 crore, Muskan Samajik Shiksha and Prachar Samiti, Guna in Madhya Pradesh, Rs 15 core and Mohan Singh Shikhsa Sansthan, Mathura, Rs 15 crore to the Gian Sagar Trust in the next three months.
Employees who will join immediately will be given a month’s salary and another month’s salary within 15 days, the trust told the HC, adding that a separate account will be maintained where fee collected from students will be deposited and disbursed as salary to the teaching and other staff.
