Dubbing the Badals as "top liars on this earth", Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday suggested to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to distribute hand-held fans and kerosene oil lamps as a solution to the prevailing power crisis in the state.
Formally launching an initiative of Punjab Youth Congress to distribute hand-held fans and oil lamps to ruling combine's ministers and leaders, Capt Amarinder said that the distribution and use of such traditional items would also encourage the state's cottage industry. "Let (chief minister Parkash Singh) Badal start distributing such items to the people so as to overcome power shortage," he quipped.
"Badals are pushing the state into dark ages, as power cuts range from 10 to 12 hours daily. Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal promised to solve power crises within six months after coming to power during the 2007 assembly elections. The situation has worsened manifold during the past six years of their rule," the PCC chief asserted during a rally held here in favour of party nominee Arun Dogra for July 11 Dasuya assembly by-election.
"The father-son duo are top liars on this earth. They are in the habit of making fool of the people," the former chief minister alleged, adding that the SAD-BJP alliance was pushing the state into backwardness. "No one is ready to invest in industrial sector of Punjab, leading to large-scale unemployment," he added.

{{/usCountry}}Leader of the Opposition in Punjab assembly, Sunil Jakhar, urged the people to teach the SAD-BJP government a lesson for its "failures". The electoral result in Dasuya would really not make any impact on the survival of the government, but it could certainly convey the message that people were not happy, he pointed out.
Jakhar claimed that in case people did not ensure the defeat of the ruling alliance candidate, the Punjab government would implement its hidden agenda of imposing taxes of over Rs 3,000 crore on the public. "If you want to save Punjab from these taxes, please defeat their candidate and convey them the firm message that you are really not happy with them," he told the gathering.
