Maheshinder Singh Grewal, adviser to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, on Monday said the state government was working on development of infrastructure in Ludhiana so that industrialists having units in the city could benefit.
He said new focal points and exhibition centre were on cards as the industry had asked for the same from time to time.
Grewal was speaking at the opening ceremony of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association’s (UCPMA) computer centre in which Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma, president of the association, and Avtar Singh Bhogal, top industrialist, were also present.
Grewal said it was a positive initiative to open a computer center at the UCPMA office on Gill Road. “Industry should create jobs for the skilled people so that it can flourish. The government is always ready to help industry in all possible ways,” he said.
Manjit Singh Khalsa, chairman of the association, said the computer centre was established in the memory of father figure of the cycle industry Karam Singh Bhogal. “Now this centre is affiliated to Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in which students will get knowledge and training of basic computer, designing, CAT-CAM, C, C++, HTML, Corel Draw, Abode Photoshop,” Khalsa said.
Rajeev Jain, general secretary, UCPMA, said the industry was thankful to the state government giving land to skilled development centre and requested Grewal to recommend land for exhibition centre for the Ludhiana industry to the state government.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, Vishivkarma said the centre was established five years ago after which its working was stalled due to some reasons.
“The centre has been reopened and will also provide computer knowledge free of cost to the UCPMA members. Other students, who would get training from the centre, would get a government approved certificate” Vishivkarma said.
