Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched a special campaign to educate the general public so as to avoid mishaps at manned and unmanned railway crossings. The drive focuses on people residing within five km of any railway track.

GRP would deploy police personnel at accident-prone unmanned railway crossings during school hours to prevent such incidents. Additional director general of railways police, Rajpal Meena, said the campaign was launched following several fatal accidents at crossings recently.

"It was observed that many innocent lives were lost in railway accidents, especially at unmanned crossings," he said.

Meena said that GRP personnel would be sent to villages to educate people. "It would be mandatory for them to submit detailed reports on their visits."
