Gurdaspur hammered-to-death case 'solved' , victim's kin held

The police on Tuesday arrested a man they claimed had hammered a woman to death after robbing her of gold ornaments and Rs 15,000 cash at her Babbehali farmhouse near here on September 22.

The police on Tuesday arrested a man they claimed had hammered a woman to death after robbing her of gold ornaments and Rs 15,000 cash at her Babbehali farmhouse near here on September 22.

The arrested man, Sikander Singh, is from the victim's village. "He is a truck operator and a close relative of the woman he killed," senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Toor on Tuesday told the media here, adding that the man was addicted to smack and on the day of the crime as well had been under the influence of the drug.

The victim, Sarabjit Kaur, 40, was attacked when her husband was at work in the government school of Dhariwal Khichian village, and her two sons were away to school. She was first struck with a pair of scissors.

The farmhouse, 100 metres outside the village, is isolated.On the statement of the victim's husband, the police had registered a case at Tibber.
