Ending the hunger strike of members of the Bhullar community who, on Sunday, faced mild lathicharge by the Mansa police over their demand to resolve the long-pending controversy over possession of a gurdwara land, the SSP and DC offered juice to two protesters on Monday.
The district authorities also promised to form a committee headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court to resolve the controversy.
To resolve the tussle between the Bhullar community and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members over possession of gurdwara land, the Bathinda DC and SSP Ravcharan Brar offered juice to Magghar Singh and Parduman Singh who were on fast for the past seven days as the health of both reportedly started deteriorating.
On Sunday, members of the Bhullar community faced a mild lathicharge by the Mansa police for protesting at a Sangat Darshan programme at Khadaksingh Wala village in Mansa block. Police rounded up about 40 protesters who allegedly raised anti-government slogans and tried to disrupt Sangat Darshan. They were released later.
