Guru Nanak Dev University professor kidnapped in Amritsar, Rs 3 lakh ransom demanded

The professor went missing on Monday but the police were informed on Friday evening.

A 31-year-old female professor at Guru Nanak Dev University, (GNDU) Amritsar, has allegedly been kidnapped, the police said on Saturday.

Her family said they have also received a ransom call for Rs 3 lakh from the kidnappers.

Sukhpreet Kaur, an assistant professor of Hindi, went missing on Monday and the matter was reported to police on Friday evening after her father received a ransom call from kidnappers, a police officer said.

Her father told the police that a man called him from Sukhpreet’s mobile phone on Friday evening and demanded Rs 3 lakh for her release, the officer said.

Police said that Sukhpreet, a resident of Baghapurana town of Moga district, left the university on Monday for her hometown, but did not reach her destination.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Sukhpreet was appointed at the university on ad-hoc basis.
