Harpreet Kaur (27), married to Baljeet Singh of Dadheri village of Mandi Gobindgarh two years ago, committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan at Bimbad village of Bhawanigarh sub-division of the district on Tuesday night.
The police have booked her husband and four others for her death.
Harpreet's brother Gurpreet Singh, in a complaint to the police, alleged that that her husband and in-laws used to harass her for bringing more dowry. He said that she had come to her parental house at Bimbad two months ago, following a dispute with her husband and in-laws over dowry. She took the extreme step on Tuesday night and her body was found hanging with the ceiling fan in the morning, Gurpreet alleged.
Bhawanigarh police station in-charge inspector Ramesh Sanehi said the police have booked five people, including Baljeet Singh (husband), Sukhdev Singh (father-in-law, Sumandeep and Jeet Kaur (sisters-in-law) under Section 304 (B) of the IPC. The police have also started investigation to arrest the accused.
