The Punjab and Haryana high court gave a notice to Punjab’s director general of police (DGP) and home secretary on Friday, based on a petition challenging the interview rule for hiring constables.
The single-judge bench of justice Daya Chaudhary sought a response from the state by August 9. Komal Kumar of Mansa and 27 other candidates for the 4,915 posts claimed in their petition that a March 28 circular had stated there would be no interview for hiring the group-B (non-gazetted), -C, and -D government officers but a May 31 advertisement mentioned a four-mark personality-cum-interview test for aspiring constables. The petitioners want the condition set aside.
The state must clarify why a stay against holding interviews should not be not granted.
