Jyani was in city to inaugurate a mega blood donation camp and to distribute artificial limbs in a camp organised by Bhartiya Vikas Parishad.

On a question raised over banning the sale of liquor following campaign of complete ban on drugs in Punjab, Jyani said, “Consumption of liquor has been continuing in the society from yesteryears, it's not of much harm.”

But later sensing what he uttered he tried to handle the situation saying that consumption of anything in abundance is harmful it may be milk, ghee or liquor. “People should think about their health and should avoid consuming any sort of drug, especially smack and heroin, which are very dangerous to health,” Jyani said.

When asked about the preparation for the coming festival season, Jyani said, “Department has the power to act against the adulteration of food and checking in this regard will be done vigorously by the department officials.” He urged people to complain at the office, if they notice adulterated food being sold nearby their homes.

He said the task to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the hospitals will be given to private companies on contractual basis. The process for this would get completed within next two months. This cleanliness scheme has already been initiated in Jalandhar civil hospital.

“Besides, a diagnostic centre will also start functioning at civil hospital soon under public-private partnership. Here, ultrasound, X-ray, MRI and other diagnostic facilities will be provided to the patients on cheaper rates,” Jyani said.
