District health officer Abnash Kumar said, "After receiving a tip from a source that the hawkers at the Jalandhar bypass area sell outdated cold drinks, we conducted a surprise check. We collected samples but did not come across any expired beverages."

However, there were some cold drinks in a godown in Ladowal area which were expired, he said.
Meanwhile, a shop owner created a drama amid the health officials' drive. He said, "The health officials unnecessarily harass people and demand money."It is worth mentioning here that the same shop owner had to pay a fine last year when the health department had collected samples of mineral water, which were found unhygienic after being tested.

Food safety officers Yogesh Goyal and Manoj Khosla, among other officials of the health department, conducted the drive.

The samples have been sent for lab tests while the expired beverages were destroyed on the spot.
