The weather forecast was not positive but the administration continued with the preparations. Water that accumulated on the ground on Saturday was removed but another heavy spell undid the efforts.

The playing field was covered with tarpaulins but it proved futile. The entire venue became slushy. After a marathon discussion with the higher officials and kabaddi association, the administration finally announced the cancellation of the event.

It was a cause for disappointment to all- the administration, the playing teams, the sponsors and the spectators.

Denmark was to play with Canada, England with Argentina and Pakistan with Sweden in pool B men’s matches. Women’s teams from England and Mexico were also to play a match. Union minister of state for social empowerment Vijay Sampla was to be the chief guest.
