A 35-year-old Haryana resident was killed after a speeding car hit him near Rajpura on Saturday evening.

The deceased, identified as Ajmer Singh of Kaithal, worked as a helper with a goods carrier, said the police.

Truck driver Somveer, with whom the victim was travelling to Panchkula from Banur, stated in his complaint that they had stopped to answer the nature’s call on the roadside, when suddenly a speeding car hit Ajmer. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car dragged him along a few metres. Somveer, too, received minor injuries in the accident.

While the car driver fled after the mishap, Somveer rushed the victim to a hospital in Rajpura, where he was declared brought dead.

A case has been registered against the unidentified person under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Cops have identified the registration number of the car (PB-23-D-7171) during the probe.
