Home alone elderly NRI killed over old rivalry in Janta Nagar

A 72-year-old NRI, Jagjit Singh, was found brutally murdered at his house in Janta Nagar near Bhagwan Chowk on Tuesday. Unidentified killers have hit him at neck, head and face with sharp-edged weapons and dragged his body from veranda of the house to bedroom and fled. The NRI was living alone in the house.

Ludhiana: A 72-year-old NRI, Jagjit Singh, was found brutally murdered at his house in Janta Nagar near Bhagwan Chowk on Tuesday. Unidentified killers have hit him at neck, head and face with sharp-edged weapons and dragged his body from veranda of the house to bedroom and fled. The NRI was living alone in the house.

Neighbours were the first to witness the body of Jagjit lying in the pool of blood. When he did not open the door, the neighbours informed the police immediately. The Shimlapuri police reached the spot and have started investigation in the case. A dog squad and forensic science team were called in to find clues.

According to initial investigation, the police concluded that the miscreants have killed the elderly due to a personal rivalry, as no sign of loot has visible in the house.

SHO at the Shimlapuri police station Inspector Gurbinder Singh said Jagjit was a resident of Paris. His two sons and two daughters are also settled abroad. His elder son Tajinder Singh had gone back to Paris around two days back. The family has ‘dharam kanta’ (weighing machine for heavy vehicles) in Shimlapuri.

The inspector said it could be a matter of personal rivalry. The police have also been scanning footage from CCTVs installed in the area.

On September 25, a retired principal, Subhash Kumar, 62, was found murdered in his flat in Dashmesh Nagar. The case is still unsolved.
