With an aim to provide greater learning opportunities, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday announced that free tablet computers will be given to scheduled caste (SC) students studying diploma, under-graduate and post-graduate courses in technical subjects.
Tablets worth Rs 4.000 each will be given by the state government to 45,000 SC students of government, government-aided as well as private technical institutions approved by Haryana state board of technical education or All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) like those offering courses in polytechnics, engineering, MBA, MCA, pharmacy, architecture as well as hotel management colleges. He said that those students having an Aadhar number would be eligible for this benefit.
The tablets will be given through the Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation (HARTRON) and would be distributed annually among eligible beneficiaries.
The project is estimated to cost the government Rs 18 crore for 2014-15. After the first year, however, only first year students will be eligible for the benefit, a spokesperson of the department of technical education said in a release issued by the department.
