The dispute over the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Ludhiana elections came to an end with the decision of the tribunal formed by state IMA to resolve the issue.
As per the tribunal recommendations, state secretary of IMA Navjot Singh Dhaiya issued orders to scrap the election process started in December 2014 and asked to start new election process by February 25.
The fresh elections will held as per the constitution of Ludhiana IMA, which got approval on December 27, 2014 by the central committee of IMA.
As per the IMA, every district can make their own constitution for elections and those who do not have their own have to abide by the state election constitution.
The row occurred because of differences of election commissioner and then district president of IMA on the rules and regulations of election process.
Dhaiya has asked the present district president Ajit Singh Chawla to conduct the fresh elections and to keep the system more transparent this time, state observer Rakesh Vig has also been appointed.
It is pertinent to mention that district Ludhiana IMA elections were proposed to be held on December 28, 2014, for which the nomination and declaration of the candidates was started.
Chawla said, "We have received the instructions from the state secretary and process of fresh elections will start before February 25. Now three members for election commission will be selected and they will announce the election process."
