The UT education department seems to have turned a blind eye towards the issue of over 80 unrecognised schools in the city. The committee formed by the director public instructions (DPI, schools) to carry out inspection in these schools to initiate action, has failed to deliver the requisite results even post over a month of its formation.
DPI (S) Rubinderjit Singh Brar had decided to lodge an inquiry to look into the state of these schools. The committee, comprising four members as well as principals of the government schools located in these areas, was directed to look into the agenda that enlisted the points the members were to prepare a report from.
Deputy director, vocational education, Saroj Mittal, whose area of inspection included Kirsan, said, “The inspection of the schools in this area is over and my team members are about to complile the report which takes time.”
Besides, Alka Mehta, principal of government school, Sector 26, and Sector 46 government school principal Raghav, cluster review coordinators (CRCs) carried out the inspection. Mittal said the department officials are overworked with other duties such as framing of the new education policy, Kala Utsav and Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, so they were unable finish the assignment in time.
Meanwhile, the story was no different for the other members as well. Deputy district education officer (DEO), Prem Joshi, could not be contacted despite repeated efforts. Assistant director, vocational, Shiv Kumar claimed, since they had been asked to visit each school personally, the inspection process was taking a long time. Suman Sharma, deputy director, adult education, however, said, “We have not yet submitted the report of the schools which have been inspected by my team. ”When asked about delay, she claimed that the work would be done at the earliest, once the formalities and compilation was over.

The members were perhaps busy with other things like the new education policy, but I will get in touch with the committee members and ask them to submit the report within a week. No further delay would be allowed. ”Brar had earlier claimed that the consolidated list of the unrecognised schools was to be submitted to the municipal corporation (MC) and the estate office to initiate action.
The members are to prepare detailed report including student-staff ratio in these schools, locality, whether teachers are trained or not, state of infrastructure and also the strength of the government schools in the surrounding areas to see if students studying in the unrecognised schools can be shifted.
