The Sangrur police claimed to have busted an interstate gang of extortionists and kidnappers by arresting all 10 members, including the gang leader Bal Bahadur. He was wanted by the police in several cases for the last five years.

Talking to the Hindustan Times, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, said that they were arrested by the police on Monday night after a brief encounter in Moonak.

The police have also seized nine pistols and live cartridges from their possession. The 10- member gang was wanted in about 40 cases registered in Haryana and Punjab. Most of the cases had been registered in Patiala, Sangrur and Mansa. Gang leader Bal Bahadur is a resident of Bhattua village near Moonak.

He said that despite his several encounters with the police in the last five years, including two encounters in Haryana, Bal Bahadur could not be arrested. Among the 10 gangsters, three are residents of Haryana, including Anil of Panipat and Naresh of Bhiwani district.

SHO Moonak, SHO Lehara, Gurmail Singh of CIA Staff and ASI Bikramjit Singh were tracing the whereabouts of these gangsters and on Monday night they succeeded in arresting them near Moonak.
