Harjinder Singh was suspended. District education officer (DEO) Nirmal Singh Sohi said that following a complaint against Harjinder, director general of school education (DGSE) Kahan Singh Pannu immediately suspended him. Sohi said the suspended teacher was assigned examination duty at a private school in Fagguwal village, near Bhiwanigarh. The superintendent of the examination center complained to the deputy DEO that Harjinder arrived after the economics exam had started on March 12, against the rule for invigilators to reach examination centres an hour before the commencement of examination.

In his complaint, the superintendent also mentioned that when asked about the delay, the suspended teacher misbehaved with him; he refused carry on his duty and left the examination centre.

Deputy DEO Tej Pratap Singh had sent a report to the senior authorities immediately. The department has already directed district education authorities to be strict with examination staff and not to allow any laxity and indiscipline at examination centres.
