On the second day of the jabar virodhi lehar, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal lashed out at Congress MLAs for implicating Akali workers in fake cases.

“Many bureaucrats and police officials are hand-in-glove with the ruling party,” Sukhbir Badal said. (HT File)

Holding a meeting at the residence of former sarpanch of Nathpur village Malkait Singh, Sukhbir said he had asked district SAD president Sucha Singh Langha and other former MLAs to prepare a list of officials who were acting at the behest of Congress legislators and were registering false cases against Akali workers.

“Many bureaucrats and police officials are hand-in-glove with the ruling party. I have information that in Dera Baba Nanak and Qadian Vidhan Sabha seats, police officials are registering false cases against Akali workers to appease their political masters. Such officials will not be spared. I am warning them to either go by the book or be ready to face the music. I dare these officers to register a case against me and then see the consequences. By targeting party workers, the Congress legislators are hitting below the belt,” he said.

Refuting allegations of political vendetta levelled by Sukhbir, Dera Baba Nanak Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said: “I challenge Sukhbir to bring on record even a single case in my constituency where SAD workers have been victimised. Police records show that there is not a single case registered against Akali workers. Sukhbir has also claimed that five marla houses allotted to the poor during the SAD rule were demolished at my insistence. He is making wild statements. This shows he has become politically bankrupt,” said Randhawa.
