Jaitley promises to transform border areas

Asserting that the bane of being a border area will be converted into a boon, BJP candidate Arun Jaitley promised a package for the border areas to bring prosperity to the region.

Asserting that the bane of being a border area will be converted into a boon, BJP candidate Arun Jaitley promised a package for the border areas to bring prosperity to the region.

Addressing a series of rallies in villages along the Indo-Pakistan border in Attari segment, Jaitley said, "There is a great difficulty faced by the farmers who have their land across the fence. The NDA dovernment had started a compensation of `3000 per acre but it was later stopped. I understand the hardship a farmer has to go through in this area and I will fight for a compensation package."

Jaitley, while addressing a rally in village Rajataal said, "Prime Minister Manmohan Singh belongs to Amritsar but he failed to do much for the border region".

Giving a roadmap to develop the border region, Jaitley said the cross-border trade should be increased, which will enhance the economic activities on both sides of the border.
