An assistant sub-inspector with the City Police, Resham Singh, has been suspended on the charges of alerting a kidnapper before a police team conducted a raid in Rohtak on August 7, leading to the accused giving the department the slip.

The ASI, posted at police station division number 5, had been made the in-charge of an investigation into the kidnapping of woman and her three-year-old son from the Nijatam Nagar locality of Jalandhar on May 11 this year.

The accused had been identified as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Hisar district with the victims being a woman Sakshi and three-year-old son Sujal.

Even as a kidnapping case was registered on a complaint from Munish Kumar, the husband of the kidnapped woman, there was no progress. This was even as police teams under Resham conducted raids in Delhi and Hisar. Eventually, ASI Resham was removed from the case.

On August 7, there was a development in the case when the kidnapped woman managed to call her husband Munish and revealed that she had been kept at rented accommodation in Rohtak.

The police, which had put the phone of the accused on surveillance, led by ASI Mukhwinder Singh raided the house and recovered Sakshi and her son on Sunday morning, but the accused was not found.

"A car belonging to the accused Sunil and `2 lakh has been recovered from the rented accommodation. The Rohtak police are also conducting an investigation."
