Jalandhar Bar member among six arrested under NDPS Act

The police have arrested six drug peddlers, including a member of Jalandhar Bar Association and a woman, for selling intoxicant powder.

The police have arrested six drug peddlers, including a member of Jalandhar Bar Association and a woman, for selling intoxicant powder.

Station house officer Dilbag Singh said the accused have been identified as advocate Inderjot Singh alias Inder, a resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar; Surjit Kaur alias Billo, a resident of Uggi village; and Jasbir Sidhu, a resident of Khanpur Dhadha village.

Apart from 545-gm intoxicant powder, a car belonging to the advocate bearing a designation plate ‘President SAD (B) Nakodar City’ was impounded.

Enquiries revealed that the father of the suspect was president of local SAD unit and passed away in 2012. Cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Excise Act have been registered against them.

In separate cases, the Shahkot police have arrested Piara Singh of Nawan Pind Akalian village and Tirath Singh of Ballnau village with 3-kg poppy husk and 105-gm intoxicant powder, while the Nurmahal police arrested one Vivtar Masih of Shamshabad village with 30-gm powder.
