Jalandhar institute students await certificates for 2012 training

About 30 institute students of the information technology (IT) and electrical engineering (EE) streams have not got certificates of two months’ training, conducted by Panchkula-based company Beta Soft Systems Private Limited in 2012.

The final-year student said, “The college arranged training for two months after the fourth semester (second year) following the summer vacation. We received training at Beta Soft in Panchkula and paid nearly Rs 4,500 as fee for the purpose. After the training, we kept asking the authorities to provide us the training certificates but to no avail.”

The students have filed a written complaint to the DAVIET principal and the vice-chancellor of Punjab Technical University (PTU).

Another student said on the condition of anonymity, “We don’t know whether the college authorities have received the certificates or misplaced them.”

Institute principal AL Sangal said, “I have asked the placement officer concerned to look into the matter. I have also asked the official who organised the tie-up and was responsible for the placement arrangements to give me the details of the case.”

About two weeks ago, it was reported that about 35 budding engineers of DAVIET were cheated by a fraud placement company which took Rs 7,500 as security from each student. The company also handed fake offer letters to IT students.
