Acting on a tip off, a police party led by deputy superintendent of police Sameer Verma, raided a shop on the Railway Road late on Thursday and recovered the child from an NRI Narinder Kaur. The latter had allegedly purchased the baby from Saroj Kumari of Sukhiabad through another agent Neeraj Kumar of Pahari Katra locality. The police said the infant was procured by agents from the Deepak Nursing Home at Bhawani Nagar. Nursing home owner couple- Anu and Gulshan Garg, were also arrested. A case under Section 373 (buying minor for purpose of prostitution) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) had been registered against them.

Sadar station house officer Lakhvir Singh said the police were investigating for how long the racket had been operating. He revealed that the recovered infant had been abandoned by ununwed mother at the nursing home.
