The academy has already dedicated a statue to the hockey legend which was inaugurated by another legendary figure, Flying Sikh Milkha Singh along with Ashok Chand (Dhyan Chand’s son) during the Jarkhar Sports Festival early this year in January.

In a short span of six years, the sports academy has been actively involved in encouraging under-privileged talented youth in rural areas and has produced players of national repute.

Various dignitaries from sports fraternity from the district will also be present to celebrate Dhyan Chand’s birthday and a hockey tournament will be held to mark the day. It is pertinent to mention here that the national sports day is celebrated to commemorate the extraordinary contribution by the hockey legend to the sporting world.

“We will be celebrating and recalling the legend’s extraordinary achievements in the sporting arena. The aim is to encourage the youth of the area and revive the same sporting spirit among them”.

District Sports Officer, Kartar Singh, District education officer, Paramjit Kaur Chahal, Punjab Basketball Association Secretary, Teja Singh Dhaliwal, Arjuna Award International Volleyball Players Sukhpal Singh Brar will also be present.
