Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Justice Jasbir Singh on Friday inaugurated a prisons call system at the Patiala Central Jail, which will enable prisoners to have telephone communication with their family members and advocates.
Justice Jasbir, who was in Patiala, interacted with inmates and inspected jail facilities. Under the call system, four machines were installed which provide facility of telephone communication to inmates. Inmate has to pay ` 100 for 40 minutes call time for a month. All conversation will be recorded in machine to keep tab on anti-social activities, jail officials briefed Justice Jasbir. The prisoners can also dial the jail help line to lodge complaint against jail officials.
Talking to mediapersons, Justice Jasbir said that his statement on the issue of CBI Judge Hemant Gopal was misinterpreted. He said that it gave an impression that Hemant Gopal was posted in the CBI Court, Patiala, despite the fact that there were adverse reports against him in the record. This is totally wrong.
The correct facts are that Gopal was posted in the CBI Court, Patiala, on December 3, 2012, whereas the ACR regarding the period in question came to be recorded at the end of reporting period for ACR which falls somewhere in April-May, 2013, he clarified. The administrative Judge visited the Sessions Division, Muktsar ,towards the end of the session 201213 and thereafter ACRs of all the officers who had remained posted in Sessions Division Muktsar, including Hemant Gopal during the year 2012-13 were recorded.

Meanwhile, Justice Jasbir also flagged off an ambulance van, which will remain in Patiala Central Jail for medical emergency needs of prisoners. He also inspected the various items made by the jail inmates and appreciated the efforts of jail authorities for imparting training of various employement skills to inmates. District and Session Judge HS Maddan, Chief Judicial Magistrate Sumit Ghai were also present.
