"It is a moment of joy for the people of Punjab in general and people of the border districts in particular that the union railway ministry has decided to revive the most-awaited rail link between Patti and Ferozepur," Kairon stated here on Wednesday. Thanking railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal for the link, Kairon said he had pursed the matter for a long time with the union government. "This dream of the people of the state has come true with our continuous and tireless efforts," he said.

The minister hoped that the link would ensure smooth traffic from Amritsar and Tarn Taran to the western coast of India via Rajasthan and Gujarat, cutting short travel time, de-congesting the Ludhiana-Amritsar main line, and ensuring quicker movement of army's troops and machines. "It is a link to industrialisation and tourism development in the border districts of Punjab," he said. "It will also help Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh take their people and freight to Mumbai and other cities on the west coast in a shorter time."
