A 30-year-old “possessed” woman of Saroopval village near Kabirpur in this district allegedly killed her two daughters and a nephew over a period of two months last year.
The incident came to light when Sukhdev Singh, father-in-law of the woman, on Sunday approached the SSP, alleging that her daughter-in-law Sarabjit Kaur had killed Amanpreet Kaur (1), Navjit Kaur (6) and Maninder Singh (2).
In his complaint, Sukhdev claimed, “Things started going wrong in July last year as my son Baljit Singh left home for Delhi to board a flight to Greece. As Sarabjit was against the move, she told Baljit that he would not be able to board the flight, and to stop him from going abroad, Sarabjit strangulated her younger daughter Amanpreet to death on July 7.”
He alleged that Baljit had reached Delhi when she killed her daughter to get him back home. “Though Baljit started living here, after a few days, she strangulated her elder daughter Navjit to death as she returned from school on August 2,” he alleged.
He claimed that after a few days she also strangulated Maninder, her nephew and the son of his younger son, to death on September 26. Interestingly, after a killing, she would say who would be her next victim. The complainant alleged that to avoid bringing a bad name to the family, they kept quiet and passed off the deaths of the two daughters as natural. “But after she killed my grandson, we decided to report the matter to police,” the complainant said.
The FIR says when her husband and father-in-law asked Sarabjit the reason for killing the girls, she claimed that she was possessed. Sukhdev alleged that she had threatened to kill her husband next. He said they had then reported the matter to the police, who did not take it seriously. SSP Ashish Chaudhary said the family had not narrated the entire incident following which the police investigated the case under Section 174 of the CrPC.

The police registered the case against Sarabjit only after the complainant met the SSP. Chaudhary said that the complainant narrated the entire incident to him after which an FIR was registered. “It’s a serious matter and we can comment only after the initial investigation,” the SSP said.
Sultanpur Lodhi DSP Davinderpal Singh said the family “never told us that the children had been killed. An interesting fact is that despite the killings by the woman, her husband left for Greece”.
A case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered at Kabirpur police station.
