The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president, Anurag Thakur, has said there have been many political leaders across the party lines in the country who have always avoided any kind of "VIP treatment".
"Arvind Kejriwal is no exception. Be it Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar or West Bengal chief minister Mamata Benerjee, there have been many leaders who have been living a very simple life but it was never highlighted in the media. My party leader, Arun Jaitley has been living in his home and never claimed government accommodation allotted to him," said Thakur, who was here as part of the Rashtriya Suraksha Abhiyan launched by the BJYM on Sunday.
He said, "Arvind Kejriwal was caught on a wrong foot and declined 10-bedroom flats after hue and cry in the media. But it is also true that Kejriwal got undue coverage in the media for his so-called astray measures. Kejriwal is very new to politics. The media should also highlight veteran leaders from other political parties who shun VIP culture."
On strain in the ties between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after alleged attack on a BJP Yuva Morcha leader on the Diwali evening at Maur town of Bathinda district, Thakur said, "Problems comes in every alliance but the SAD is a very strong partner in the NDA and was the first to accept Narendra Modi as BJP's prime ministerial candidate. So, such incidents will not hurt the alliance."
