In another apparent change of stance on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal and Punjab’s water-sharing issue, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday that “everyone has right” on the water.
He was replying to a query about whether or not people in Delhi have the right on the waters of Punjab. “Definitely it is. Everything is there. Everyone has the right,” he responded in a short briefing after the rally at Majitha, where he announced Himmat Singh Shergill as the candidate against sitting MLA-minister and SAD firebrand Bikram Singh Majithia.
It came at end of his latest Punjab tour before he went back to the national capital.
Notably, a few days back in Ludhiana, he had broken his silence over the SYL issue and said had that Punjab “doesn’t have enough water to meet demands of its own farmers and has no water to spare”.
“Aam Aadmi Party will protect the water of Punjab,” he had said, adding that AAP leaders have a uniform stand.

Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder tweeted: “Yet another flip flop on SYL. Will @ArvindKejriwal come clean on the issue once and for all?” Congress was on the job immediately after Kejriwal made his statement, and the video clip was made viral on social networking sites.
