Kerosene, wheat sold in black: 7 booked

The district police claimed to have to have uncovered a black-marketing racket here on Tuesday in a raid on a depot. The crackdown by the Jaurkian police was based on the report of a man named Naib Singh Ulak.

The police took some food inspectors to the spot and, though they failed to catch all three main suspects, they seized 200 litres of kerosene oil that had been loaded in a canter. The police have named seven people as suspects.

The seized wheat and kerosene oil were meant for the ration-card holders, including families in the below poverty line (BPL) category. The police claimed to have seized 8 quintal of wheat, besides 200 litres of kerosene oil.

A team led by the Bareta station souse officer (SHO), Chanan Singh, later arrested depot owners Avtar Singh Bhola, Jiwan Singh Thoothianwali, and Major Singh Banawali.

"When seized, the kerosene oil was being transported from Meean Kainchian to Ulak," said senior superintendent of police Narinder Bhargav. "Suspects Amrik Singh Khudal Kalan, Amrik Singh Kula, Surinder Singh Kulehri, and Rattan Singh Kula fled the scene."
