Carrying on the legacy of kinship politics, political leaders have nominated their kith and kin to the district grievances redressal committee.
Information gathered under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that Congress member of parliament Santosh Chowdhary has nominated her husband, former MLA Ram Lubhaya, and chief parliamentary secretaries Mohinder Kaur Josh and Sohan Singh Thandal, have nominated their sons Karamjit Singh and Ravinder Singh respectively on the committee.
Woman representative is none other than former BJP minister Arunesh Shakir's sister Umesh Shakir, who is vice-president of BJP's state mahila wing. The scheduled caste quota has been filled by SAD's block samiti chairman Paramjit Singh Panjor.
Sardara Singh Jandoli , a close confidant of district SAD president Surinder Singh Bhulewal Rathan, has been nominated in the freedom fighter category, while the district youth SAD president and zila parishad chairman Sarabjot Singh Sabi fills the slot for a youth.
Former district planning committee chairman Mohinder Pal Mann and Hoshiarpur central cooperative bank chairman Satwinder Pal Singh Dhatt have been included as 'social workers'.
In the previous committee, Mann was appointed in the Christian category, though he is a Jat.
District planning committee chairman and senior BJP leader Jawahar Lal Khurana represents the business community, SAD office- bearer Avtar Singh Johal represents the industry and SAD general council member Iqbal Singh Khera represents Bhartiya Kisan Union as a farmer.
BJP has nominated its state general secretary Jagtar Singh Saini under the NRI category, who had to resign as state NRI commission member following allegations of misuse of office.
The deputy commissioner is entitled to nominate a special invitee and he chose senior SAD leader Lakhwinder Singh Lakhi.
