The local school where the alleged immolation victim studied in Class 12 had taken her name off the rolls after she failed to attend school for a month without informing it.
The 16-year-old girl had resumed Government Senior Secondary School, Dhandari Kalan, on November 26 after remaining absent for a month. According to her classmates and teachers, when she came to resume school, she was depressed and often cried.
Lakhwinder Singh, a teacher, said in case a student remained absent from school for 10 days without informing it, the school took his name off the rolls. The victim’s name was taken off the rolls on November 5. Non-payment of fee was another reason for this, he added.
Lakhwinder said he knew about the kidnapping incident that occurred on October 25. She returned to school on November 26 and cried most of the time. The principal called her parents and asked them to take her back home as she was disturbed, he added.
The victim’s mother said the principal told them to take her back as she was unwell and scared.

Meanwhile, the police intend to form a special investigation team to find out the role of the accused.
The parents of the accused in the immolation case have approached the police, claiming innocence of their wards. They have also produced pictures and video, saying the accused were not present in the area when the incident took place.
When contacted, police commissioner Pramod Ban said as the investigation was on, he would not be able to comment.
