The dense fog in the region claimed two lives in two road accidents in the district on Thursday evening. In both cases, drivers fled from the spot.
The deceased were identified as Gurcharan Singh, 40, a resident of Ghangroli village in Patran subdivision, and Balwinder Singh, 47, a resident of Sodhiwala Ugoke village, in the district.
In the first hit-and-run case, Chamkaur Singh, a resident of Ghangroli village, complained to the police that his father, Amrik Singh, and son Gurcharan Singh, were riding a bike. “When they reached near Ghagga at around 6 in the evening, the driver of a pick-up truck (PB 11 AD 4809) suddenly applied brakes resulting in the collision with my father’s bike. Both were injured and rushed to a local hospital where Gurcharan died.” He said that after the accident, the driver drove away.
In the second incident, Joginder Singh, brother of deceased Balwinder Singh, alleged that an unidentified car (PB 11 F 1899) driver hit his brother’s motorcycle near Burar village at around 8 pm, killing his brother. The driver fled from the spot.
Cases under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) were registered at Ghagga and Patran police stations.

{{/usCountry}}The police officials said they were trying to identify the drivers and they would soon arrest them as the registration numbers of the vehicles were noted by the complainants.
