In blatant violation of the Legal Metrology Act 2009, LPG gas agencies have failed to ensure checking of the weight of cylinders at the time of delivery.
It has largely been found that delivery boys hired by the gas agencies are not carrying weighing machines, which is mandatory.
Despite cash memos carrying the message “Get cylinder checked for weight and leakage at the time of delivery”, the delivery boys are neither using weighing machines to check the weight of the cylinders nor are they performing any checks for any leakage at the time of delivery.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Anita Khurana, a resident of Ghumar Mandi, said, “Whenever the delivery boy comes to deliver the cylinder, I ask him to bring the weighing machine so that I can check whether the cylinder weighs 14.2 kg or not. He always says that he would bring the machine next time. If I argue with him, he says he would take the cylinder back and tell the gas agency that the house was locked.”
Another customer, Anuj Kohli from Sarabha Nagar, said, “During delivery of LPG cylinders, the delivery boys never check for leakage from the cylinders. I have called the gas agency several times, but nobody responds. It is the duty of the gas agencies to ensure that their delivery boys are carrying out the checks. The boys must carry feedback registers too.”
