Ludhiana cops use WhatsApp to crack cases

A large number of people use mobile messaging application WhatsApp to share jokes or to be in contact with their friends. The Ludhiana police have been using the app in investigation and to piece together pictures of the puzzle cases pose. Officers are also using the app for communication.

A large number of people use mobile messaging application WhatsApp to share jokes or to be in contact with their friends. The Ludhiana police have been using the app in investigation and to piece together pictures of the puzzle cases pose. Officers are also using the app for communication.

A body was recently identified using WhatsApp. On Sunday, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar police spotted an unidentified body. The body was retrieved. They searched the clothes on the body to get clues to the identity. When nothing was found in the pockets, the officers clicked a picture of the body and shared it on the official WhatsApp group of the police.

After the pictures were posted, the Shimlapuri police identified the body and replied that the missing report of the deceased had been registered with them. The case was handed over to the Shimlapuri police.

“WhatsApp made it easyotherwise, identification of the body is a tough task,” said deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Naveen Singla. “We have formed several groups on WhatsApp. Officers share information on it. The SHOs share pictures of unidentified bodies and missing persons,” he added.

The DCP said, “WhatsApp had proved to be very useful for communication - it makes sending of pictures and videos easy.”
