The deceased, Manoj Kumar, 27, recorded a video of suicide message on his smartphone before taking the extreme step.

The Shimlapuri police recovered the mobile and registered a case of abetment to suicide against Kumar's father-in-law Balbir Singh, brother-in-law Laddi, Gurpreet Sarpanch and his brother (Laddi's cousins) and Laddi's maternal uncle under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following statement of Kumar's mother Rajrani.

Manoj Kumar was a peon at ICICI Bank, Jamalpur. He was married to Kuljeet Kaur of Shehzada village two years ago, and he had a son from the marriage and his wife was pregnant again.

Rajrani told the police that her daughter-in-law had gone to visit her parents five days ago. On Saturday, she called Manoj to take her back.

“Following this, we went to Shimlapuri police station to lodge a complaint in this context, but the police asked us to register complaint with Lalton police post. We have waited for a day at police post Lalton, but the cops did not listen to us. We have no other choice so we have come back home,” rued Rajrani.

According to the video message left by Manoj Kumar, he was afraid of being implicated in a forge case by his in-laws. He had held his in-laws responsible for his death.

Inspector Jagjit Singh, Shimlapuri (SHO), said the police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
