Contract Workers' Union (Azad) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) held a meeting at Pearl Palace near Chatar Singh Park here on Tuesday to discuss the job regularisation. They lashed out at the state government for not regularising the contractual staff “despite giving assurance.”

State president of the union, Pirmal Singh, said, “The state government had hired 1,000 linemen in 2011 and it was assured that within two years all these linemen will be regularised. But nothing has been done till now so we all feeling deceived by government.”

Pirmal said, “The linemen, who have to work day and night, are working on a meager salary of 10,000 till now. It's difficult for the linemen to make both ends meet.”

General secretary of the union, Jagtar Singh said, “In a meeting held recently with power secretary and the PSPCL officials on February 17, it was assured that the linemen will be regularised from July 1, but no written notification has been issued till now.”

The members said that if the government fails to issue written notification for the regularisation soon, the union will be forced to protest.
